About Me: 

Hi! I am Giuseppe Tortora, PhD in BioRobotics, researcher at The BioRobotics Institute of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna.
I am originally from Isernia, Molise, Italy and I live in Pisa, Italy. My main research interests are in the field of medical robotics, minimally invasive robotics surgery, and microrobotics. My research activities include robots design, robot control, robotic system integration, capsule endoscopy. As PhD student, I was a visiting research assistant at the Imperial College London, London, UK and at the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, USA.

I supported university technology transfer, I gained management experience through several incubation and management classes. I succesfully participated to many entrepreneurial initiatives that gave birth to Probiomedica s.r.l. in 2015, joint spin off of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna and University of Florence, and ABzero s.r.l.s. in 2017.

I was prized with many international awards (Best Contribution to Technology Transfer in 2012, Winner of an incubation period within the XXIV Call at IUF in 2014, Winner of an incubation period focused to an investment in the framework of Unipol Ideas contest -8 companies over more than 200 hundred have been selected-, Winner of the Start Cup Toscana 2014, Finalist at the PNI 2014, Winner of the Special Prize Franci@ Innovazione at PNI 2014, Winner of the Special Mention Social Innovation UK Embassy at the PNI 2014, UK-Business Award 2015, Best presentation award @ BioInItaly investment roadshow and admission to final event of BioInItaly-Intesasanpaolo startup initiative, 2016, winner of Bioupper II event by Novartis and Fondazione Cariplo, 2017), Maserati Innovation Day finalist -17 selected 60th companies, Leopolda Future Summit Finalist, selected for BootStrap StartupItalia @ Internet Festival 2017, winner of the NatiPer competition of AXA (and 50 k€ prize) among more than 300 startups, first position at territorial and regional phases of CambiaMENTI award organized by Italian CNA and access to final event (20 among 500 startups), second position at Start Cup Toscana 2017, finalist of BioUpper III and other prizes.
