Endoscopic device locomotion and control

The objective of this set of projects was to develop a safe and effective locomotion system for an endoscopic microcapsule to explore the gastrointestinal tract. To strive toward this goal, a deep understanding of the problem of locomotion was necessary. Several designs for locomotive capsules were developed and compared, in order to derive the most effective from the engineering and medical viewpoint. In parallel with the main objective, the Surgical Robotics group developed also a colonoscopic self-autonomous robot that was patented and industrially developed [http://www.endotics.com/].
